
Do you have a microwave at home? Do you know how it works? If you think you do, then you are wrong.
But you can determine the frequency of your household microwave oven easily. . Can you guess it?
There is another way, which requires some chocolate.
Take a big bar of chocolate, and keep it in your oven for 15 seconds. When you take it out, you'll see that there are some regions which are 'badly' molten (yummy!). The distance between consecutive molten regions is 6cm.
So, whats the frequency?
P.S: you need to switch off the rotation for the microwave for this.

ReplyDeletea microwave oven uses the property that microwaves interact with liquid(generally trapped water) molecules by making them vibrate.. now consider a wave travelling "through" the choco-bar.. jahan antinode hogi vahin to vibration due to E&B fields zyada hogi!

ReplyDeletebtw, another interesting thing about microwaves is that if wee keep something metallic there which is pointed, say a fork or a crushed aluminium foil, we can see sparks inside the microwave as the voltage is higher than breakdown voltage of air.
but if we say keep a bowl or something, there are no sparks. does anyone have a reason for this. i am myself not aware of the answer.
maybe just due to EM disturbance, charges get concentratd at d corners..(as they DO have a sort of "tendency" to accumulate at corners)

hence corona discharge..
